Tips for those upper Midwesterners ready to transition from indoor pickleball to outdoor playing.
Spring Season is Here! But, Are you Ready?
The Outdoor Season of PICKLEBALL is here!
- Park & Rec Departments and city employees are getting the outdoor courts ready for players.
- Registration for pickleball play, classes, and clinics are underway.
- Nets are up at many locations across Waukesha County.
- Windscreens are in the process of being installed.
- Picnic tables and benches are getting cleaned off and set-up.
- Plans for the remaining big items at the courts are getting marked on the calendar for delivery!
The buzz around the pickleball courts is starting!
But what about you? Are you preparing yourself, your body, for the upcoming outdoor season?
Are you ready?
Here’s a simple checklist to ensure that you are ready and prepared for the season:
- Outdoor Pickleball or court shoes with a good grip on the bottom surface.
- Safety glasses – sunglasses or other type of glasses to protect your eyes.
- Water bottle (filled with water).
- Bag for transporting your gear to/from the courts
- Clip on the handle of your bag (so you can hang it on the fence).
- Granola bars or snacks for inside your bag (for added energy – and to share with those fellow players that feel the effects of showing up and playing hard before eating anything).
- Extra balls (not all courts provide balls) – make sure the balls are for outdoor play.
- Hat or visor to protect yourself from the sun.
- Sunscreen – never fun to feel the effects of a sunburn for those of us who didn’t travel much to warmer climates during winter/spring.
- Layers – Wisconsinites know to wear layers this time of year.
- And, be sure to get to the courts early to warm-up to prevent injuries (see an article here about importance of warming-up to prevent injuries).
All areas of the US are expected to have a huge growth in the number of pickleballers at courts this spring/summer – be sure to register and sign-up for your open play times with your local parks and clubs.
Be Safe! Prepare!
Be Kind to Others.
See you on the courts!
